Experiences at Eden
Children learn through the places they explore, the things they make and the people around them. At Eden, trips, outdoor learning, food and enrichment connect with everyday play.
Outdoor learning and trips
The outdoors is not an extra at Eden. It is an important part of learning, movement, wellbeing and making sense of the world.
In our garden, children climb, build, dig, create, use natural materials and enjoy the freedom of fresh air. They learn through all kinds of weather, with activities adapted so that outdoor time feels safe, purposeful and fun.
Beyond the nursery gates
We make the most of our location in Filton and the opportunities nearby. Children take part in regular outings and community experiences, with trips planned to be exciting, age-appropriate and carefully supervised.
Trips include local parks and green spaces, Lawrence Weston Farm, Windmill Hill City Farm, museums and the Bristol Zoo Project, where we hold a membership. Our electric minibus helps us explore further afield, while double prams support local walking trips.
Growing at the allotment
Our nearby allotment gives children a wonderful chance to get their hands in the soil, plant seeds, care for growing things and see where food comes from. It is a place for digging, noticing, waiting, harvesting and celebrating what they have helped to grow. Toddlers and preschoolers visit with our Outdoor Lead, linking planting and harvesting with the food prepared in our kitchen. Family visiting days give parents and grandparents opportunities to share the experience.
A meaningful connection with nature
Whether we are collecting leaves, spotting a bird, picking blackberries or simply walking together, children learn that the natural world is something to be curious about and care for. These real experiences support physical development, language, confidence and a lasting sense of wonder.
Music movement and creativity
Nursery life at Eden is full of opportunities to try, create, move and express. Our enrichment activities complement everyday play and are woven naturally into a week that remains child-centred, relaxed and enjoyable.
Music and movement
Songs, instruments, rhythm and dance give children joyful ways to communicate and build confidence. Preschool children also enjoy small-group ukulele lessons with a specialist teacher, exploring sound, strumming and familiar songs.
Yoga and mindfulness
Yoga and mindfulness give children playful opportunities to move, pause and develop awareness of their bodies and feelings. Sessions support flexibility, focus and emotional regulation.
Cooking and creative play
From mixing, tasting and preparing simple food to painting, making and exploring textures, children learn through doing. Messy, hands-on experiences encourage curiosity and give children the confidence to experiment with their own ideas.
Sport and active play
Activities such as rugby lessons help children develop coordination, confidence and a positive relationship with movement. The emphasis is always on participation, enjoyment and trying something new.
Art at the allotment
Our preschool children enjoy painting at the allotment with a specialist art teacher. Looking closely at plants, insects and the landscape gives them inspiration to explore colour, mark-making and their own ideas.
Learning in the community
Our trips and outings turn the wider world into part of the learning environment. Children see, touch, ask questions and make connections that cannot always be recreated in a room.
Food and nutrition
Food is an important part of your child’s day. At Eden, our kitchen team prepares seasonal, plant-based meals on site, using carefully selected ingredients and making mealtimes a warm, social part of nursery life.
Children are encouraged to explore new tastes at their own pace. We know that every child is different, so our team works with families to understand individual dietary needs, preferences and routines.
More than a meal
Mealtimes are opportunities to sit together, talk, practise independence and enjoy food with friends. Children are supported to develop confidence with everyday skills, from using cutlery to helping with simple food experiences.
Food and the natural world
Our nature ethos carries into the kitchen. Through gardening, growing and cookery activities, children can begin to understand where food comes from and take pride in the things they have helped to plant, pick or prepare.
Talk to us about your child’s needs
A visit is a good opportunity to discuss your child’s dietary requirements and to ask any questions about food at Eden. We will always be happy to talk things through with you.
Caring for our world
At Eden, we want children to feel connected to the world around them. Nature gives them endless opportunities to explore, test ideas, use their senses and discover that they can make a difference.
Our approach is practical rather than preachy. Children care for plants, use natural materials, enjoy outdoor spaces and learn through real experiences. Along the way, they begin to understand simple ideas such as reducing waste, recycling, growing food and looking after living things.
A thoughtful environment
Our nursery has been created to feel calm, welcoming and inspiring. Wooden toys, natural materials and open-ended resources invite children to use their imagination and play in their own way.
Learning to care
When a child waters a seedling, notices a worm in the soil or helps sort materials for reuse, they are developing patience, empathy and responsibility. These small, everyday experiences help nurture confident children who care about their community and environment.
Eco Schools Green Flag Award
Eden has achieved the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, recognising the environmental learning and sustainable practices woven through nursery life.
